Grown above the clouds
Our farm sits higher than five thousand feet above sea level, sheltered by subtropical rain forests, otherwise known as cloud forests. Here, high elevation causes slow-ripening cherries develop dense sugars and a more balanced acidity to develop from its distinct limestone soil.
The region is also known for its distinct German influence, dating back to the 1850s when German immigrants settled in Altavera Paz, drawn by its favorable climate and rich soil. They began organizing large plantations for farming coffee and developing the infrastructure to connect mountain communities. One such piece of infrastructure was the Verapz railroad which allowed them to transport their harvest down to the coast for global export, ultimately contributing to the rise of coffee becoming a dominant national export of Guatemala.
